Team History
Spring 2022The spring 2022 semester was marked by a number of milestones successfully met. In March, the rocket aced a stability stand test for the first time, hitting all of its stability criteria -- settling time and steady state error. In May, we surpassed our expectations in the first landing test, with the rocket nearly nailing the landing.

New rocket features:
- Ground control - The ability to receive data from and send commands to the rocket, via a RF connection and a custom "ground control" application.
- Thrust vector assembly - the new in-house thrust vectoring mechanism improved in responsiveness and accuracy.
- Motor characterization tests - provided a verification of the thrust curves given by the manufacturers.
- COM aligner - enabled the more precise alignment of the center of mass.
- Controller Integral action - allowed the controller to combat steady state error.
- Automatic ignition - For the first time the rocket, housed its ignition electronics on-board, necessary for a mid-flight ignition.
Fall 2021In the first semester fully back from COVID, the team experienced significant growth, onboarding many new members. Learning from the tests of the previous year, we overhauled many subsystems and steadily progressed in our stability tests.

Fall 2020 - Spring 2021In September, we started the Propulsive Landing team as a project team within the UConn AIAA branch. Despite all meeting beings virtual, we built up the rocket from the ground up in preparation for the first stability test - to test the rocket's control response.

Summer 2020Inspired by the SpaceX Falcon 9 landings and motivated by the BPS.space model rocket experiments, UConn Propulsive Landing started as a personal project during the height of the pandemic. After a month of work on a rocket the contained the predecessors to a number of current systems (controls, drop tower, general architecture, etc) and one unsuccessful drop test, it was determined that this project could only be successful with a team of engineers.
